TVO's Prisoners to get U.S. airingthe science fiction-comics-multimedia news magazine from TVOntario, Prisoners of Gravity, is slated to appear on public tv in the u.s. beginning in September.
The test market project will be directed by Oregon Public Broadcasting, and includes the participation of the New Jersey, North Carolina and Wisconsin state networks.
Other test stations for the 10-program series include kera in Dallas, wned in Buffalo, n.y., kpbs in San Diego, Calif. and wgbh in Boston.
According to Tom Doggett, vice-president of tv programming for Oregon Public Broadcasting, he was attracted to Prisoners of Gravity because it serves a sought-after audience in the teens-to-thirtysomething range.
Some of the episodes in the u.s. test include "Dinosaurs," "Immortality," "Time Travel" and a tribute to the work of science fiction writer Ray Bradbury.
During the u.s. test, Oregon Public Broadcasting will collect audience data in anticipation of a national release of a 26- or 39-episode package early next year.
